THE STORY:
The last time Aregawi saw his mother was the night he left Africa, fleeing a repressive regime. Now after 30 years and many legal and immigration battles, he hopes to finally reunite with her and negotiate his complex relationship with his homeland. This documentary confronts complex topics of immigration, moral compass, identity, survival, and how we perceive the world around us.

Directed by Meera Joshi & Eric Mann

How do you maintain peace when you witness unpeaceful acts?

The documentary is a timeless story of our desire to connect to our roots but concurrently speaks directly to the time we live in of open hostility to immigration and those deemed ‘the other’. Aregawi’s story brings hope and direction to those who feel the system has let them fall through the cracks.
